Ulster XC 2018 – Round 3 – Drumcairne

Date: Sunday 20 May 2018
Event: Ulster XC Series Round 3
Venue: Drumcairne Forest, Stewartstown, County Tyrone
Host club: Island Wheelers

This is the third round of the 2018 Ulster XC series.

Course Description:

All races will be starting from near the car park.  Riders will go up the grass and turn left onto a fire road for 50 m.  They will then turn right into the trails which are fast and rooty in places, continue into the pine section and through the potato drills.  After the potato drills the riders will go through another tight, rooty section until they come onto a fire road for plenty of overtaking opportunity.  There will be a right turn into the Garden, then up a short, sharp climb (car park climb). After the climb there is a fast section of trail before going over God’s Ramp ( B line available), another short climb then flat out to the finish line.

Note: The youth courses will be using part of the main course so those sections will not be available for practicing on while the youth races are in progress.

Senior beginners (S3 women – S4 men)
The sport will only grow when we attract new people to give cross-country racing a ‘go’.
For 2018 both the Senior 4 men and Senior 3 women have a reduced entry fee as per a proposal passed at the 2017 Cycling Ulster Off-road Commission AGM.
Also for 2018 the Senior 3 women’s race will share the Under 14s course as per a proposal passed at the 2017 Cycling Ireland Off-road Commission AGM.
Both the Senior 4 men and Senior 3 women’s races should last less than 60 minutes.

Under 6 race
The Under 6s race is just for fun. It is an introduction to off-road racing. It is all about the achievement of starting and finishing. If your child can complete the course with ease and is ready for the next challenge please have them try the Under 8s race instead. There is no lower age limit on the Under 8s race.
