The first round of the Ulster Cross-country Mountain Bike Series took place today at Tollymore Forest Park. Host club Dromara CC had been on site for two days preparing the course and the event field. With overnight rain the event field was left quite muddy underfoot and the single track trails were made more challenging with the wet tree roots. Round 1 of the Xmtb Spring Series took place today at Ormeau Park. Although the morning started dry the predicted wet weather arrived before the start of the first race. The rain went from light to very heavy back to light again. When all racing was finished the sun came out!! Lots of fun in the mud.

XMTB’s Spring series returns to Ormeau Park on Sunday 26th February 2017. The club wish to thank Belfast City Council for their support and ongoing permission to use the venue. In 2016 Cycling Ulster had sent a cross-country mountain bike team to the British NPS series. The Off-road Commission is now looking for expression of interest from riders who wish to join this team to compete at the British events in 2017. As per 2016 the team will be made up of a maximum of 4 riders. Age categories are Junior and Under 23 (male or female).

Drumcairne Forest is a hidden gem located just outside the County Tyrone town of Stewartstown. Local club Island Wheelers have been hard at work preparing a course around this neglected site which was once the extended gardens of a grand house.
